Who I am
I'm Heather Miller, a professional photographer located in Wheeling, West Virginia. I have loved photography since I was a kid, always asking for more Polaroid film. When I got a 35mm film camera I realized how creative photography could be, and I was hooked. In 2007 I bought my first professional digital SLR, which was also the year my first child was born. A few thousand photos and a couple years later, I knew photography was what I wanted to do with my life, so I began doing portrait sessions.
My ultimate goal was to photograph weddings, but it's a world that's tough to break into when you have little experience in that area. Thanks to my friend and colleague Neal Warren, the amazingly talented owner of Design & Image Studios, I was able to achieve my dream. After taking his photography and photojournalism classes at West Liberty University, where I studied graphic design, Neal hired me to work with him as a second shooter at weddings and he became my mentor. The following year I branched out and began booking weddings of my own.
My photography style is mostly photojournalistic. I have always been moved by photojournalism; I was drawn to photojournalistic images even at a very young age. I am passionate about documenting the moments of life as they unfold. Every day of anyone's life is a story that can be told in photographs. Though portraits are often posed to some extent, much of my work involves creating "candid" images - photos that catch people interacting in their natural environment, producing images that truly represent that individual's personality. The photos I am most proud of are those that capture an important split second of life; one that, when preserved in a photograph, can bring back the memory or emotion of that moment for a lifetime.
I strive to create beautiful images for my clients, and I will do whatever I can to make sure your experience is happy, fun, and comfortable, and that you end up with photos you will cherish for years to come!
